Cycling Thoughts - First Victory for Bradley Wiggins

Special mention this morning for England's Bradley Wiggins who, over the weekend, won the first stage race of his professional career - the Herald-Sun Tour in Australia.

The Garmin-Slipstream rider went into the final stage of the race - a 15-lap circuit of Carlton, Melbourne - with a five second lead over his team-mate Chris Sutton. Wiggins finished the final stage of the race in ninth position with the same time as stage winner Jonathan Cantwell of the Fly V Australia team. This extended Wiggin's lead in the General Classification over Sutton to 11 seconds. Canadian Svein Tuft, who also rides for Garmin-Slipstream finished the tour in fourth place to seal a remarkable performance from the UCI ProTeam team.

Following his fourth place finish at this years Tour de France, victory in Australia brings an end to a magnificent season for Wiggins. Here's to another great season, hopefully with the Garmin-Slipstream team, in 2010.
